Harry Howell Twin Pad Arena

Description

The North Wentworth Twin Pad Arena boasts two full-size hockey rinks, with elevated seating accommodating nearly 900 spectators, and one pad capable of year-round ice. Warm viewing areas on both upper and main levels enhance the spectator experience. Additionally, the facility includes 12 change rooms, 4 referee rooms, a Multi-Purpose Room, meeting rooms, a pro-shop, and a spacious central atrium.

DPAI, in collaboration with RDH Architects of Toronto, led the site planning and control efforts. The comprehensive master site plan involved relocating two soccer fields, preserving an existing single pad arena, and accommodating a proposed Ministry of Transportation highway interchange. Negotiations among conservation authorities, the MTO, and the City of Hamilton were complex but successfully navigated.

The arena surpasses Ontario Building Code accessibility standards, ensuring unrestricted access for all users. Its pre-engineered steel frame was creatively configured to achieve a modern aesthetic at an economical cost.
