WSP engaged DPAI to re-imagine the space at GTA West – Mississauga. WSP occupies the 6th floor and part of the 5th floor (total 35,000 sf.) of the existing LEED Gold building accommodating a staff team of approximately 460 people.
Seeing positive trends in employee engagement, wellness and productivity, WSP’s goal was to expand on their commitment to their people and further improving on the employee experience. DPAI guided WSP toward more inclusive workplace design by facilitating a series of workshops to guide the process. DPAI devised diverse employee profiles to highlight the various needs of employees today, ensuring a balanced representation.
DPAI’s approach to inclusive design brought WSP to the forefront of workplace innovation. We weren’t tasked with just designing a space, but designing an entire employee experience.

At the start of the project, DPAI also worked with WSP to explore possible certifications such as LEED and Fitwel which resulted in DPAI re-using as much of the built systems and systems furniture as possible to meet the LEED requirements. The design was a collaborative process with the various consultants and when the budget required a significant reduction after the construction drawings were already completed, we redesigned as a collective team to achieve the final design.
DPAI was responsible for the Furniture, Fixture and Equipment selections and tender for ancillary and meeting room furniture. DPAI worked within with WSP’s various standards (e.g. branding, meeting room standards) and engaged the team to provide input on locations and scale of interventions for the project. Our goal with the design was to achieve balance; a more “resi-mercial” feel and aesthetic that includes patterns, colours and textures designed to include underrepresented employees, while still compliant with WSP’s brand standards.
