Hancock Woodlands Park is a phased park improvement project for the City of Mississauga, delivering new amenities that support accessibility, stewardship, and year-round community use. Designed to sit within the woodland setting, the work includes a new accessible public washroom facility, an open-air pavilion with power for programming, and renewal of the historic Header House potting sheds.
Inspired by the park’s horticultural legacy, DPAI’s design approach connects new structures to the site’s established landscape character. The washroom facility reimagines a compact, durable form with a bold seasonal colour palette drawn from the park’s rhododendrons. Exterior screening is designed to encourage native climbing vines, allowing the building to blend into the surrounding greenery in warmer months and provide vibrant contrast against the winter landscape.
Nearby, the open-air pavilion creates a welcoming destination for picnics, gatherings, and community events. A sheltered wall offers protection from wind and weather, while integrated seating and site-responsive details reinforce the pavilion’s relationship to the surrounding woodlands.
At the heart of the project, the Header House renovation is reworking three former potting sheds into a cohesive, expanded structure while retaining the original character where possible. New greenhouse spaces extend the facility to support municipal operations and enable future community gardening and education initiatives.
