SENIOR ARCHITECT

Join our dynamic and vibrant team at our beautiful downtown Hamilton office.

We are inviting OAA licensed architects with a minimum of 10 years of experience to join our family. This is a rare opportunity to manage exciting and interesting projects and play a central role in developing our growing firm as we look to the future. We welcome applications from motivated architects with experience and a genuine interest in public and institutional design, and with ambitions to help build on our firm’s 15 years of success.

Position Responsibilities:

Design

  • Has both design and technical skills, synthesizing strong design intent with technical resolution.
  • Develops design concepts after a design has been approved and confirms building code and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Develop construction documents for projects of varying scope with minimal supervision.
  • Lead and manage projects from design development through contract administration phases.
  • Inspire and lead design thinking.
  • Actively works toward strengthening networks and marketing strategies.

Technical

  • Prepares architectural drawings using REVIT and AutoCAD, SketchUp, and other modeling software.
  • Strong in Adobe suite and Microsoft Project and other resource planning tools.
  • Evaluates design solutions against municipal zoning site conditions and constraints.
  • Maintains and manages all project documentation related to construction documentation and contract administration.
  • Ensure solutions meet building code and regulatory requirements, with a keen sense of the subtlety of the Building Code as it relates to institutional building types.
  • Maintain awareness of new methods and developments in the fields related to the area of assignment, incorporating new developments as appropriate.
  • Ensure processes, policies and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively. Bring your expertise and ideas to project pursuits.
  • Ensure accountability and compliance with all current and applicable laws, agency policies and procedures, rules, and regulations for all building types, but with an expertise and experience in Institutional projects, particularly post-secondary educational buildings.

People-level Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary client contact on projects
  • Collaborates with, inspires, and motivates people across teams; develops junior members.
  • Develops strong relationships with internal and external teams.
  • The ability to succinctly articulate ideas and concepts as they relate to the complexity of buildings to both experienced and laypeople.
  • Manages and coordinates consultants.
  • Leads and participates in team meetings to advance design options and ideas into effectively build solutions.
  • Embraces firm culture and community with passion guided by our vision.

Qualifications:

  • OAA licensed Architect with a minimum of 10 years of experience (mandatory).
  • Canadian Project experience from design through construction.
  • Proven experience in executing challenging programmatic and technical projects from schematic design development phase to warranty phase with minimal guidance.
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills.
  • Proven ability to balance design intent with technical execution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; proven track record of meeting project timelines.
  • REVIT and AutoCAD, SketchUp and other modeling software experience
  • A proven collaborative, team player with a positive outlook to people, challenges, and growth.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit

ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST

Join our dynamic and vibrant team at our beautiful downtown Hamilton office.

We are inviting Architectural Technologists with 5-10 years of experience to join our family. This is a rare opportunity to collaborate on a variety of interesting projects as we look to the future. We welcome applications from motivated candidates who:

  • Has Canadian experience with project delivery in a fully integrated REVIT team environment
  • Is passionate about building performance and technical detailing.
  • Has an interest in Architectural Design
  • Possesses knowledge in the field of sustainable design (LEED or Passivehouse accreditation as asset)
  • Understands that good detailing is required to carry through architectural ideas.
  • Has 5-10 years working experience as a technologist in an architectural environment.
  • Has a collaborative and wholistic outlook on teamwork
  • Is an excellent verbal and graphic communicator

Qualifications:

  • AutoCAD (Mandatory)
  • Revit (Mandatory)
  • Microsoft Suite (Mandatory)
  • Adobe DC Pro (Mandatory)
  • Sketchup (Preferred)
  • Good Hand sketching skills is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Building Code
  • Capable of performing Code reviews.
  • Able to fill out OBC Data Matrix
  • Competent in SB-10 and SB-12 requirements
  • Familiar with multi-discipline design work
  • Knowledgeable in sourcing ULC assemblies to suit various situations.
  • Experience with Construction Phase and Contract Administration work
  • Experience writing and reading 3-part specifications.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Possess a full understanding of building science, construction materials, construction methods, and architectural detailing.
  • Membership in MATTO as asset
