DPAI could not be prouder to participate in YWCA’s 2018 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event to support life-changing and life-saving programs and services that empower women. These efforts will combat homelessness and reduce violence for girls, women, and our entire community.
Funds raised will support survivors in 4 major ways:
- Providing safe transitional housing for those escaping violence
- Offering care programs geared toward individual needs for recovery from trauma as a result of violence
- Offering a 12-week program empowering survivors of violence to secure safe, long-term, affordable housing and reconstruct their lives
- Providing additional services for women and their families, including health and wellness programming, seniors programming, employment and training support, childcare support, and volunteer opportunities
Each year, the YWCA supports over 100 women to receive safe, affordable housing at the YWCA Transitional Living centre, and over 100 women and their children to stay safe after escaping violence through Phoenix Place.
On June 19, DPAI staff members Elena, David P, Patty, Brady, David S, Pablo, Molly, Edward and Sandy, will be supporting the work the YWCA does to empower all women in our community by walking a mile in the WAM’s ubiquitous red shoes.
